Samsung’s clamshell foldable has evolved a lot since the first Galaxy Z Flip, and on July 9 in New York City, the company officially introduced its latest version: the Galaxy Z Flip 7. This new model brings meaningful upgrades across the display, performance, and battery, while keeping the familiar Flip identity intact.
A bigger and better cover screen
Samsung continues to push the cover screen experience forward. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 features a 4.1-inch cover display, officially called the Flex Window, which now stretches across the entire front of the phone and wraps neatly around the camera cutouts. This is a noticeable upgrade from the 3.4-inch display found on the Flip 5 and Flip 6.
The cover screen supports a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and can reach up to 2,600 nits of brightness, making it easy to see and use even under direct sunlight. While Samsung still limits full app support by default, users can unlock more functionality using the Good Lock app.
Larger inner display with flagship-level brightness
Inside, the main display has also grown. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 now has a 6.9-inch foldable screen, up from 6.7 inches on the previous generation. It offers a 120Hz refresh rate, peaks at 2,600 nits of brightness, and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Stereo speakers round out the display experience, making media consumption more immersive.
First Galaxy Z Flip powered by Exynos
For the first time, Samsung has equipped a Z Flip phone with its own Exynos processor. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 runs on the Exynos 2500 chipset in all regions, including the US. This 10-core processor is paired with an AMD-based Xclipse 950 GPU, marking a major shift from the Snapdragon chips used in earlier models.
The phone comes standard with 12GB of RAM and is available in 256GB and 512GB storage options. There is no 1TB variant, which Samsung continues to reserve for its top-tier Ultra devices.
On the connectivity side, the Flip 7 supports 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and USB-C 3.2. Thanks to the Exynos 2500, it also gains satellite messaging support, a first for the Flip series.
The biggest battery ever in a Z Flip
Battery life has always been a weak point for clamshell foldables, and Samsung is clearly trying to fix that. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 packs a 4,300mAh battery, the largest ever in the Flip lineup and a significant jump from the 4,000mAh battery in the Flip 6. It’s only slightly smaller than the battery in the Galaxy Z Fold, which should translate to noticeably better daily endurance.
Charging speeds, however, remain unchanged. The phone supports 25W wired fast charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
Cameras stay the same
The camera setup will feel familiar, and slightly underwhelming, for photography fans. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 retains the same hardware: a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP front-facing camera. There’s still no telephoto lens, which is understandable given the compact design but disappointing nonetheless.
That said, the large cover screen continues to make the Flip series great for selfies and hands-free video recording, especially when using the main camera with Flex Mode.
The big picture
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 isn’t a radical redesign, but it represents one of the most meaningful upgrades in the series so far. The larger and brighter cover screen, improved inner display, new Exynos chip, satellite connectivity, and the biggest battery ever in a Z Flip make it Samsung’s most refined clamshell foldable yet.
If you’re looking for a stylish foldable with better usability, stronger performance, and improved battery life, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is shaping up to be Samsung’s best Flip phone to date.
